Important Places
Vakathanam is a village located in the Changanassery taluk of Kottayam district. It is known as an important agricultural region where paddy and rubber are the main crops cultivated.
In addition to its agricultural significance, Vakathanam is also famous for its rich cultural heritage and historic monuments. Some of the important places to visit in Vakathanam are:
- Manikandapuram Temple: Believed to have been built in the 14th century by the Thekkumkoor kings, it is one of the oldest places of worship in the region.
- Narasimha Swamy Temple: Located in Kadamuri, this temple is an important pilgrimage center.
- Vallikkattu Dayara and Seminary: Established in 1925, it served as a seminary and diocesan headquarters of the Orthodox Syrian Church.
- Mar Baselios Dayara: A holy monastery of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, located in Njaliyakuzhy in Kottayam district.
- St. John’s Orthodox Syrian Church: Built in 1847, it is one of the oldest Christian churches in Vakathanam.
